Online Math Course Instructions
Our classes are designed for strong math students in elementary school grades.
Please follow the instructions with younger students as they would need more of your help and encouragement to solve some of them. Majority of the math problems are very challenging and to solve them, the basic math skills like addition, multiplication and division are required. Even though some lower grade students may not be very familiar with them, they may develop great reasoning and logic skills that will benefit their mathematical future.
Suggestions regarding the best use of Math Chicago e-classes:
1. Print the attachment with Math Chicago problems. They will learn better having math problems on the paper with a flexibility to make notes and sketches than just looking at them on the computer.
2. Make sure you give your child only the problems first, do not hand him/her the page with the answers.
3. First let him/her work on the problems by themselves without your help.
4. Go over the problems with your child and help him/her understand fully things they are asked about. It is well known that discussing, reading, and writing about text can help understand it better.
5. You may want to hand him/her some books or internet resources that would prepare them to better understand given word problems.
6. After you helped your child to solve all the problems, asked him/her to do them again without your help. Knowledge they have learned will be better stored in their brains. If they encounter similar math question in the future they will have better way of approaching it.
7. Congratulate your child and always encourage him/her to learn mathematics since the students in lower grades in elementary school tend to be most likely to learn with ease and joy. They also tend to be most motivated through their parents.
Good luck!
